The Natural Leader of Cross River State Northern Senatorial District, High Chief Higgins Peters, warmly received His Excellency, Governor Prince Bassey Otu, at his country home in Oba, Okpoma, Yala LGA, on the occasion of the 2026 Yala New Yam Festival.
The grand reception came immediately after the New Yam Festival, where Governor Otu was honoured with the highest traditional chieftaincy title in Yala Nation “UKPOLU KPOTU 1 OF YALA NATION.”
It was a remarkable gathering of tradition, culture, leadership and friendship, as High Chief Higgins Peters welcomed the Governor and celebrated with the people of Yala.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after hosting Governor Prince Bassey Otu at his country home in Oba, Okpoma, High Chief Higgins Peters said the Governor deserves the highest traditional title in Yala Nation in recognition of his contributions to the people of Cross River North.
According to the Natural Leader of Cross River State’s Northern Senatorial District, there is nothing too big or too special for Governor Otu, considering the numerous interventions and development projects delivered across the Northern Senatorial District.
High Chief Higgins Peters emphasized that the honour bestowed on the Governor goes beyond politics, describing it as a fitting recognition of his commitment and service to the people.
In his words, “Governor Otu deserves more than a traditional title.”
